Ruti's youth music work has taken place mostly through the Kerry Diocesan Youth Service in Killarney and Killorglin. She has also visited schools and one-off youth events to run songwriting and instrumental workshops with teenagers.
Young people don't always get the chance to jam together, so Rock-It and other youth programmes facilitate this. Currently Ruti is involved with a band project through Music Generation, in Sunday's Well Boys School, Cork.
Ruti encourages the young people to create new music and songs. She also teaches them ensemble/band skills such as listening, counting in, responding to each other musically, as well as encouraging them to try instruments that they may not have played before.

Active Music workshops for teenagers take place in youth centres and at festivals, such as Doonbeg Jazz Festival (below)
