A visit to a preschool, a parent-toddler group, or infant classes in national schools - with instruments galore, and songs and music games - is a delightful and educational hour's enthusiastic activity for children as well as parents and teachers. Visits can be occasional, once a term or once a month, or regular - for example six visits, culminating in a concert for parents. Music Tots classes took place in Killarney, and further afield, from 2011 to 2016. Ruti undertook an MA in Community Music in 2013 - 14. The MA research included looking at the benefits of music classes for preschool age children, specifically language development and social skills for 3 - 5 year olds. The classes were focussed on fun music making. Weekly classes are currently on hold, as Ruti is relocating to Cork city. As well as regular workshops, Music Tots specialises in music for children with special needs and learning difficulties, visiting groups such as St John of Gods and Enable Ireland to work with parents and children, and running training for childcare and special needs teachers. 087 660 6118 [email protected] |
